SAGA

A COMMUNITY MEDIA CUM ARCHIVE

In a world conquered by glamour, capitalism and political propaganda, Saga is a voice to the narratives that remain overpowered by the mainstream portrayals. The channel attempts to bring forth the stories from the unheard and unseen, crediting the protagonists combating real-life struggles. Saga as a medium envisions establishing humanity’s roots in a fair, just, inclusive, acknowledging, and empowering manner.

Saga has taken birth from individuals wanting and working to address the existing polycrises, through the simple art of storytelling. We are currently a team of three, who wish to open up the channel for more community narratives by facilitating the rightful resources.

Through the program, Green Life Conservancy has extended its resources to the youth as a tool to document community narratives. We offer mentorship, editing and communication services alongwith a stipend to the interning individual. We are also trying to position the program as a livelihood opportunity for the youth from particularly marginalized communities.

Gaav ek kahaniya anek

Our team member (documenting the community stories) who joined as an Intern wanted to start by documenting the anecdotes of people from his village Perwakudi. The compilation is all about the people and their stories.

Naach toh jaane aangan tedha

The documentary, नाच तो जाने, आँगन टेढ़ा, seeks acceptance, respect and open-mindedness to the plurality. Saga has documented narratives of artists who have adopted a form of dance performance at events such as weddings to make a living out of it!

Our Story

We started this program with an intern, Vishwajeet, joining us from the organization ‘Mosammat Budhiya Siksha Sanghatan’ in Arariya distrit of Bihar. The young individual, was interested in photography and filmmaking, additionally curious to work on the social aspects of the region he hailed from. The documentation of community archives and media is thus a result of his interests and our resources.

Paras, a bird/nature photographer, and filmmaker (https://www.youtube.com/@OnNaturesDutytrained the young individual with some basics of camera settings and framings. Vishwajeet is a quick learner and was soon ready to film the subjects from his region and community. He has filmed about 5 stories now, out of which we have been able to edit and complete 2 films.

We supported him all along with a basic stipend, now he is a full-time part of our production team. To encourage this young talent to produce more compelling content, and extend the opportunity to more such individuals, we are in need of different forms of support, and fundflow.
